MAC Cosmetics Haul
On a recent trip to IFC Shopping Center to grab lunch, it turned out to be a slightly more a productive trip than I bargained for as I managed to also pick up a haul of lovely MAC products to try out (eeek). I snagged these items:
Lightful C Marine-Bright Formula Essence / Serum (re-purchased as I've just finished my current bottle)
Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in 'Medium'
Creamsheen Lipstick in 'Japanese Maple'
Lipglass in 'Please Me'
Lip Scrubtious in 'Summer Berry'
Lip Conditioner (Tube)
I was pretty chuffed with my selection, and was then pleasantly surprised when the store assistance gifted me a travel size makeup case with a mini Lightful C Softening Lotion and a Lightful C Cleanser - not bad for a lunch time effort!
LIGHTFUL C MARINE-BRIGHT ESSENCE / SERUM
Although they say it's what's inside that counts I couldn't go past the packaging on this product. I'll admit I'm a sucker for pretty packaging and this Essence / Serum's psychedelic, unicorn mirror-like patterned tube is well... really pretty. Aside from the outside, the serum itself is a soft but sticky texture that disappears right into your skin on application. The tackiness makes for a perfect base layer before makeup which dries into a sheer, almost matte finish. I've found it helps to keep my foundation in place all day and keeps my skin hydrated, helping to prolong the onset of the oily t-zone to later in the afternoon.
According to the MAC website, it describes this product as "A brightening serum that conditions and plumps skin for a smoother, more radiant look" which I believe this product delivers. That being said, I will typically use other serums / essences before layering with this product, and at the moment I'm using CosRX Triple C Lighting Liquid and Belif's Numero 10 Essence. MAC also offer this product in a dual option, which includes both a tinted version of the serum as well as a non-tinted version. I've previously used the tinted version in 'Medium' and it works really well when you're after sheer, natural coverage (which is not often for me, but occasionally when I need to pop down to the shops..).
This is the first time I've tried Skinfinish from the Mineralize range, and if the Mineralize Highlighter was anything to go by this would also be a stellar product. I chose to go with 'Medium' colour which is a perfect match for my skin tone. The product comes in a black powder compact (dang, no sponge) and has a mirror in the lid (convenient), although the lid itself can be a pain to open (trust me, it's annoying). I use this as a setting powder by dusting over my face with a big fluffy brush after applying foundation, and also with a smaller brush to set concealer under the eyes. It has a light texture so no heavy or cakey finish, and I re-dust over my t-zone throughout the day to keep my makeup looking fresh and matte. The performance of this powder is impressive, and I'm also liking that it keeps my eye concealer firmly in place without creasing.
When I walked into the MAC store I immediately spotted the limited edition Nikki Minaj range which had a range of fabulous colours which I was also tempted to buy, however decided instead on the Cremesheen lipstick. The colour is a gorgeous pinky nude which is perfect for everyday wear, or paired with a dark smokey eye for a more glam look. Recently I've been using a lip pencil to help with staying power, and then if a look calls for it I'll add a light layer of gloss in the middle of my lips.
I can honestly say this is my holy grail lip gloss and a staple go-to at the moment. I'm obsessing over the texture, colour and it's staying power which is surprisingly long for a gloss! The colour 'Please Me' is a soft nude pink, with enough pigment to be worn alone or with a pink pencil liner underneath. I also use this to dab over the top of nude lipsticks for a bit of glossy texture. There is plenty of product and a little goes a long way. This is definitely one of my favourites from the haul!
This product smells absolutely divine and I literally want to eat it every time I open it! As sugar based scrub, it has crystals that gently exfoliate dead skin away in no time to create super soft lips. If you've ever used a matte lipstick you'll understand the struggle of trying to keep product from lifting or cracking if you even have a hint of dry skin, so this lip scrub could be the answer to your woes. If you're on a budget and in need of a lip scrub, it would likely be easy to DIY a similar product at home. Overall, it's a product that delivers positive results after scrubbing for a minute or so in circular motions.
LIP CONDITIONER (TUBE)
The lip conditioner is a solid product if you're in need of additional lip hydration on the go. I managed to leave it at work when I was shooting these pics so missed out on including it. It comes in a silver tube package with twist lid and is a clear, glossy product and has a smooth oily texture. I can't say it's at the top of my re-purchase list as I prefer Mecca Cosmetica's Lip De-Luscious SPF 25+ and Lucas Paw Paw Balm which is a fraction of the cost, however it is still a great choice is you're looking for a MAC lip oil / balm to throw in your handbag and use on the go.
