2 days in Byron Bay

During the last trip to Australia, I was fortunate enough to visit the sunny, laid-back town of Byron Bay in New South Wales.  I had organised a mini 2-day road trip from the Gold Coast and dragged my sister along to help me check out a few potential wedding venues for next year.

Years ago a group of friends and I visiting Byron for the first time for 'schoolies week', and went back for a semi-annual pilgrimage (just kidding... but we did kinda get up to the same antics...!).  It had been almost 10 years and I still have great memories of my time in Byron which combined with the incredible views of the hinterland and the stunning beaches made for the perfect choice for a destination wedding location.

The sprawling beach was as stunning as I remember and the weather was a perfect balmy 27 degrees.  The relaxed hippy-esque vibe was in full swing, despite the town being a little more built up and populated.  I managed to squeeze in a brief sun baking session before checking out the local clothing stores, including Auguste The Label and Spell & The Gypsy Collective.

CAFE CULTURE

While I was in town I took the liberty of sampling a few of the local restaurants and cafes for their local produce, as I was also scoping out potential venues for night-before and day-after activities.

One of the cafes my sister recommended was Combi, which was a great spot to watch the world go by and sample a vast and tasty organic menu.  There was a cabinet with raw cakes and treats that I was very tempted by, and is on the list to try next time I'm in town. I highly recommend the coconut iced coffee and the salad bowls - yummmm!

We also tried Three Blue Ducks at The Farm (I recommend checking out the pig & chicken pens in the paddocks while you're there!) however my camera battery died that morning so unfortunately I missed out on taking photos of our glorious breakfast of avocado toast with goats cheese, fruit toast with home made butter and a side of gigantic coffees - which was a godsend after the previous night of sampling almost every cocktail on the menu at St Elmo Dining Room & Bar.

HINTERLAND VIEWS

A short drive out of town, and I was in the stunning hinterland and already thinking of a return visit.  The rolling green hills were picture perfect and a great change of scenery from the usual skyscrapers and busy city streets of my current home in Hong Kong. I couldn't help but stop to enjoy the views, and take plenty of photos.

I'm thrilled that we've locked in a venue for our wedding, and *spoiler alert* that it will be in the hinterland of Byron Bay.  Needless to say, I'm extremely excited and can't wait to return for more planning and preparation soon!
